This Is How A Jaipur Girl Fought Against All Odds To Provide A Home To Fellow Artists To Pursue Their Dreams

"When I left my parents house to follow my dreams last year with my brother Sudhanshu, we struggled a lot. For four days we wandered in search of a roof over our head and a stable place to sleep at night. Those four days I can never forget in my entire life. I promised myself I'll create a place which any artist with hope could call a home. A home for all the artists so they aren't afraid of nowhere to be when they wish to escape and make art."

Men in Blue book historic quarter-final berth in hockey

The Indian Men’s team has qualified for the last eight of the hockey tournament in Rio Olympics 2016, following a high-voltage draw between fellow Pool B nations Argentina and Germany on Thursday. Soon after the Men in Blue went 1-2 down to the Netherlands in a cliffhanger of a contest, the defending champions found themselves held by the South American side to a 4-4 tie at the Olympic Hockey Center in Deodoro, thereby confirming India’s quarter-final berth.

Making this achievement all the more special is the long wait of 36 years since India last crossed the group stages in the Moscow Summer Games of 1980 which, incidentally, had fetched the 8th Olympic Gold for the country. From an Indian perspective, the past few editions of the Olympics have been far from satisfactory, with the failure to qualify for Beijing 2008 for the first time ever being the lowest point in their Olympic history

Sharmila, known as the "Iron lady of Manipur," first smiled and then sobbed before she ate the honey in front of reporters in India's northeastern Manipur state, finally free of the nasal tube that the government had used to force-feed her for more than a decade.

Guns cheaper than smartphones in Pakistan

DARRA ADAMKHEL, Pakistan: Gunfire echoes through a dusty northwest tribal town, the soundtrack to Pakistan’s biggest arms black market, where Kalashnikovs welded from scrap metal are cheaper than smartphones and sold on an industrial scale.

Darra Adamkhel, a town surrounded by hills some 35 kilometers south of the city of Peshawar, was a hub of criminal activity for decades. People smugglers and drug runners were common and everything from stolen cars to fake university degrees could be procured.

Dipa, first Indian gymnast to enter vault finals in Olympics

Country’s first woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics, managed to perform her much-appreciated ‘Produnova’ vault cleanly to secure 14.850 points after two attempts. It was a nervous wait for the Indian after that. She had ended sixth after the third of five sub-divisions.

She dropped to 8th eventually when Canadian Shallon Olsen’s terrific effort of 14.950 rejigged the overall standings. But that was just about enough to secure her a place in the finals scheduled for August 14 as the top-8 made the cut for the medal round.
